This is a very important question for our times. It is especially a scheme of satan to remove biblical standards. He has already set the foundation by removing a belief in God, and now the standards that come from His word are gradually being removed.
At the heart of this question is a major component of the prevailing current world view. My feelings take precedence over anything else. If I feel something, then that is more important than objective truth. You are what you feel is the view that underpins this. If my feelings and heart tell me to do something, then that must be right and true. Those who hold this view won't even entertain it being held up to scrutiny. If I feel that I want to be a man, then even if I am born a woman, then I am a man. What I feel is more important than what is true.
People try to change their bodies to make them physically look more like a man if they are female or the other way around, and it is what their heart desires. They may take drugs to make their body work more like a man too. In this case, some surface changes are possible, but it still doesn't change who you are. If I was to say I felt 10 years old, no amount of taking anything will change the fact that I have been on this earth for far longer than that. And no amount of drugs or surgery will change who God has created me as.
In Gods word, we read: Genesis 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Since the garden of Eden, it has been part of Gods purpose to create us male and female. Each has a specific part to play, within families, within the church, and within society in general. The roles are different, but one isn't more important than the other. God specifically chose 2 genders, male and female, and we have been continuing on after our kind ever since.
It's worth defining a few terms as part of this.
First of all is our physical sex. We are born with a set of male, or female chromosomes, as well as male or female organs. These are so prominent, that even at around 20 weeks of pregnancy, you can have a scan where you can be told if your baby is a boy or a girl. These physical characteristics are set, and make up who you are. It is something observed both physically and genetically. This is objective observable truth.
Biology and neuroscience don't back up the idea of there being a separation between gender and our sex, they are one and the same. Often people argue that they can't help who they are, and that this is a civil rights issue, but this again comes back to our heart being deceptive, as our physical sex is no different from our gender.
Then we have masculinity and femininity. Some of this can be defined by society, but also much comes from the word of God. For some men, being that alpha male role is the definition of masculinity. They won't back down in any argument for example, because they will see this as not being a man. They may look on something like writing poetry as not a masculine activity to do. But this isn't right, there are differences within masculinity and femininity. King David played a harp and wrote psalms. Peter was a tough fisherman, and Christ himself cared for little children. There is variation in what makes a man and a woman. But there are also things that God calls us to do as males and females.
Genesis 2:18 - And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
One of the major roles of a woman is to help the man. I can tell you from my experience in marriage that having this help is invaluable. Without it, I would make many bad decisions, and many things that I don't even consider or think about would get missed.
1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Another examples of specific roles is the man is responsible for providing for his own house. This doesn't mean he has to be rich, but it does mean he has to work, and provide for his house. This doesn't stop women from working for income too though, we see this in Proverbs 31:24 She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. But the man has that specific burden to provide for his household.
So we have roles to play, and there are differences in how we as men and how ladies behave and that is fine while it is in line with God's word.
Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
We can't trust our feelings, because our hearts are desperately wicked, so we have to come back to what is true, rather than what we feel. What I feel doesn't define who I am.
I want to come back to Genesis 5. This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
The world teaches us that we are how we feel, but this verse here teaches us the exact opposite. You are who God has created you. No amount of surgery or drugs changes that fact.
So what do we do in the light of that fact?
We see what God calls each and every one of us, male or female to do.
Ultimately, that is turn from our sins, trust in Him and obey His word.
